◎ General Objectives of the Project
The EUIJ-Kansai, the consortium formed by 3 universities of Kobe (Co-ordinating university), Kwansei Gakuin and Osaka, was established on 1 April 2005 with financial support from the European Commission, the executive branch of the EU, in order to contribute to strengthening the ties between Japan and the EU by promoting educational and academic interactions, enhancing public relations and sending out information.
Amid the accelerated speed of EU integration, and the increasingly enhanced role of the EU around the world, understanding of the EU among the Japanese public, however, has not reached a satisfactory level yet.
Considering the importance of these activities, we are proud of having commenced the Phase-II on 1 April 2009, with expanding our operation by concluding the cooperation agreements with the Institute of Economic Research, Kyoto University, and Kansai University.
The EUIJ-Kansai, intends to develop the following broad activities:
1. To become an EU educational and academic centre
Offering extensive EU-related courses through credit-transfer among the 3 universities, the EUIJ-Kansai awards Certificates to students who have successfully completed the stipulated EU courses. The EUIJ-Kansai also encourages academic exchanges with European universities and institutes, offering scholarships for students, inviting professors from the EU Member States, conducting joint researches, and organising EU-related seminars and international conferences.
2. To become a source of EU information
In close collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to Japan, the EUIJ-Kansai collects useful information, and widely distributes them not only to universities but also to general public and elementary, junior-high and high school students by utilising the EUIJ-Kansai website and other various programmes.
3. To promote EU outreach activities
Open public seminars and business seminars on general subjects of the EU issues, such as dynamics of the EU integration, its legal and institutional aspects, and economic, social and cultural aspects of the EU Member States, are conducted by the members of the EUIJ-Kansai and the partner universities.
